The French settled along the central region of the current United States of America, and Netherlands and Swedish in the northeast. During 1640s the Netherlands drove the Swedes in the region.
A VirginiaFounded in 1606Was the first British colony in the Americas. Jamestown was the first British settlement founded in Americas. British settlers hoped to find gold or other precious metals, but found nothing. Instead, the Virginia eventually became an agricultural colony, starting to export tobacco for United Kingdom from 1612. The Virginia also stands out because it was the first colony to establish a system of government, House of BurgessA legislative chamber.
