A training turtle (or testudo formation) Was used by soldiers Roman and had character defensive. Was to have the shields very close together forming a roof with them, in order to protect Legionnaires of attacks projectiles, And over the sides.

This training was low mobilityHowever, its defensive power was quite effective. According to some authors It was easy to do it, since the Roman training common was rectangular (or square), And the legionnaires had only to worry about the disposal of shells, as stored.
