Most of the gross domestic product of New York stems from its immense tertiary sectorSpecializing in international trade, advertising and other activities necessary to support trade on a large scale. Overall, the tertiary sector accounts for 85.5% of GDP in New York. In addition, many of the largest companies and corporations have their administrative headquarters in New York City, or in the neighboring county of Westchester. Services financial and estate are responsible for 32% of its GDP, and employ 1.1 million people. Community services and personal account for 23% of the GDP of the state, and employ 3.66 million persons, the trade Wholesale and retail employs about 1.9 million people and accounts for 13% of its GDP. Government services account for 10% of the GDP of the state and employ about 1.45 million people. Transport, telecommunications and utilities account for 8% of GDP of the state, employing around 487 thousand people. Hydroelectric and e nuclear produce each about 25% of the electricity generated in the state. Thermoelectric a coal and gas are responsible for producing 20% of the electricity generated in the state each. The rest comes from coal oil and imports of electricity generated in Quebec, Canada.
