President Olegario is a municipality in the Brazilian state of Minas Gerais.De according to data from the IBGE’s website, its estimated population in 2008 is 18,892 inhabitants.

The city has 3 districts: Headquarters, Galena and fixed point (also known by its former name “São Pedro da Ponte Firm), highlighted by its immense plateaus, rich in grain production, one of the largest producers of Minas Gerais and Brazil .

A ranch for cattle drivers coming and going Paracatu led to a place called the Swamp Alegre. On October 10, 1851, when the donation was made public property of the church in order to erect a chapel under the invocation of St. Rita, is now called Santa Rita da Boa Sorte. In 1867, the village was elevated to district Paracatu. Already in 1888, when it was incorporated into the municipality of Santo Antonio dos Patos, Patos de Minas today, is now called Santa Rita de Patos.

In 1938, the district was elevated to municipality, and the name was changed to President Olegario, in honor of Olegario Maciel, chief local politician, who died during his term as Chairman of the State of Minas Gerais.

In addition to its district headquarters, had over four districts: Galena, Lagamar, and convinced Lagoa Grande. The district Lagamar emancipated themselves politically by Law 2764 of 30 December 1962. Subsequently, the District of Lagoa Grande also won their emancipation, by Law 10,704 of 27 April 1992.
